Tea ceremony is strongly related to the Zen sect of Buddhism. This performing art was originated by Ashikaga Shogun family about 800 years ago. The idea is based on offering tasty tea, beautiful flower and fragrance to Buddha. We have been serving the deceased since Heian period (about 800-1200).
Cherishing “WA” (mind of harmony) is also important for Japanese mind, since Prince Shotoku Taishi (574-622), one of the most famous historical figures, proposed “Cherish the harmony among people” in The Constitution of Seventeen Articles in 604.
